Alvarado Score: A Promising Tool in Diagnosis of Acute Appendicitis

Introduction: Appendicitis is the inflammation of vermiform appendix, one most frequent diagnoses for emergency department visits, resulting in hospitalization. Accurate and prompt diagnosis acute appendicitis may reduce incidence morbidity mortality from perforation other gravid complications.
 Aims:To evaluate effectiveness Alvarado scoring system preoperative appendicitis.
 Methods: The study 100 patients attending to Nepalgunj Medical College Hospital during year August 2021 July 2022, with symptoms were included. score each patient was evaluated. All subjects included scheduled open appendicectomy specimens subjected histopathological evaluation. Patients less than 7 categorized as Group A, whereas greater B.
 Results: Among patients, there 58 males 42 females. Symptoms like pain right iliac fossa (97%), nausea vomiting (85%) anorexia (41%) common. Positive signs tenderness (92%) fever (53.5%) leukocytosis (73%) neutrophilia 62 cases (88%). Of 27 belonged 73 B. 17 out A diagnosed on histology, whereas, 10 showed negative results. 69 B 4 results histology. rate appendectomy significantly higher group overall sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, value 80.20%, 71.42%, 84.52% 37.03% respectively.
 Conclusion: when more enables risk determination presenting abdominal pain, linking probability appendicitis.
